3-Digit Subtraction

3-Digit subtraction can be confusing, especially when there is trading and regrouping. The use of manipulatives helps to teach students the concept of what they are doing when they are subtracting, and conceptual understanding is key to mastery.

In this instructional video, 3-digit subtraction is reviewed. Four equations are explored: One with no trading, one with one trade, one with two trades, and the last one with two trades across a middle zero on top. Base ten blocks are used to show what is happening between the digits.

This video will benefit anyone who is trying to teach this concept or who is pursuing mastery of this concept.

Happy Subtracting!
